   New name of RIHD

The long waited change in the name of Rehabilitation institute & Hospital for the Disabled (RIHD) has been done by the Ministry of Health and Family Weilfare during the Interim Govt. period. The new name is "National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation" (NITOR). It is very true that a new name may not be liked by all. But it is our moral duty now to familiarize this name. Hopefully we shall be getting referral patients in the name of NITOR.

 

 

   Minister's visit to NITOR

 

 

Prof. Khondoker Mossarraf Hossain, the new Minister of Health & Family Welfare with two other State Ministers Prof. Rezaul Islam and Mr. Aman Ullah Aman has visited NITOR. Director General of Health Services Prof. Ahsan Ullah was also present with them. They visited the hospital premises and had a meeting with all doctors of NITOR. The Director of NITOR Prof. Faruque Reza Aolad demonstrated the magnitude of services and the support to the NITOR with the help of slide projector in a very nice way.

 

 

   Promotion & Transfer Posting

 

 

Meanwhile Dr. Md. Amjad Hossain & Dr. Kh. Abdul Awal Rizvi, Associate Profs. of NITOR has been promoted to the rank of Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery (current charge) in NITOR & Dr. Md. Shahiduzzaman, Dr. Idris Ali, Dr. Sailendra Nath Mistry & Dr. M.A.Samad, Assistant Professor has been promoted to Associate Profs. of Orthopaedic Surgery (current charge). Among them only Dr. S.M.Idris has been transferred to DMCH from NITOR. Dr. Sajjad Hossain and Dr. Mohsinul Hussain Majumder, Assistant Profs.(c.c.) has been transfered to NITOR.

 

 

    SIGN (Surgical Implant Generation Network)

 

 

The SIGN Interlocking Nailing introduced by Dr. Lewis G Zirkle J.E. MD becoming very popular in NITOR. Dr. Ayaz Ahmed Khan & Dr. Farque Quashem was co-worker of the team. Now a great number of Orthopaedic Surgeon & residents are also performing the nailing in both femur and tibia. A few students have taken their thesis subject on SIGN Nailing. Till now these nails are supplied free of cost from donation kits of Dr.Zirkle. Interested members of BOS are most welcome to the O.T. of NITOR for training on SIGN Nailing.

 

 

     Newsletter from Chittagong

 

 

A colorful offset printed four pages Newsletter has been published by the Orthopaedic Surgeons of Chittagong. The Newsletter was admitted by Dr. Abul Bashar Chowdhury. They observed the 25th anniversary of Orthopaedic services in Bangladesh. There were some rare photographs & interested information for new generation Orthopaedic surgeons. Dr. Bashar should be given big hands for this extraordinary job.( THIS NEWSLETTER CAN BE SEEN IN THE NEXT PAGE - WEBMASTER)

 

 

      Arthroscopy / Hand Surgery Clinic

 

 

In NITOR, with the special initiative from Prof. Faruque R. Aolad, an Arthroscopy & Hand clinic has been started with operation arrangement at the 1st floor clean O.T. Arthroscopy clinic is on Tuesday & Hand clinic is on Saturday. Dr. M.Ali who had a six months training on Arthroscopy & Sports medicine in Singapore is taking care of patients with Korean resident Dr. Ziang. Dr. Abdul Awal Rizvi being the In-charge of the unit. Dr. R.R.Kairy on the other hand is the In-charge of the Hand unit. Members of Violet unit works with him in Roster.

 

 

       Plantation

 

 

The members of EC, BOS made plantation in the premises of NITOR of few valuable plants. There is a future plan of making a garden in that premises.

 

 

       New Batch of MS / Diploma

 

 

New batch of MS Orthopaedics under changed curriculum started their carrier in BSMMU for the first time. The selection of students was made in NITOR. Diploma students also attended their courses in NITOR & have joined their duties.

 

 

       Illness

 

 

With  great regrets, possibly you all know the illness of Dr. Ayjaz Ahmed Khan, Assoc. Prof. of Orthopaedic Surgery, NITOR. He is one of the senior most Orthopaedic Surgeon of NITOR with a very good reputation among his colleagues for his friendship & generousness. He is popular to students for hisco-operation & guidance, he was beloved by his patients for devotion, sincerity & kindness. He is diagnosed as a case of colonic mass and was initially treated in Bombay & had a second surgery in USA very recently. BOS has performed a Doa Mahfil in NITOR in August. May Allah bless him with full recovery. 

 

 

       Training Abroad

 

 

Dr. Moshiur Rahman, Junior Consultant, Orthopaedic Surgery, Rangpur Medical College Hospital has gone to Madras, India for one-year fellowship on Plastic, Hand & Reconstructive surgery training from 01.11.2001.

 

 

        Obituary

 

 

We deeply condole the sad demise of mother of Dr. Kamruzzaman, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Khulna Sadar Hospital & also father of Dr. Muztaba Ali, M.O., NITOR. we pray to almighty Allah for their departed soul.

 

 

       Abstract for BOSCON 2002

 

 

The Scientific Committee of BOSCON 2002 invites scientific papers, presentations, posters for its conference scheduled in 15-17th Feb. 2002. Last date of sending abstract is 15th January 2002.

In past there was a plan of establishing eight highway trauma centres in the country. But possibly there is no progress in this issue. What steps BOS can do to initiate the talks with Ministry in this regard.
